Mobile Phone Basestations, Health Risks and Risk Management

Together with our international research colleagues we analysed all epidemiological studies of base stations. Even with uncertainties, it was surprising that 80% of all studies showed an increased health risks for people living in the main beam of the transmitter:

Khurana, V. G., Hardell, L., Everaert, J., Bortkiewicz, A., Carlberg, M. & Ahonen, M. (2010). Epidemiological Evidence for a Health Risk from Mobile Phone Base Stations. International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health (IJOEH), Vol. 16, No. 3, 263-267.

Addionally, we have been collecting research papers of other transmitters (FM radio, radar etc). This research overview is available on a web site called Chronic Exposure. The literature review is very comprehensive.

The dilemma: Transmitters are installed in risky spots like close to schools and kindergartens. European Parliament in 2009 requested safer siting and installation procedures.

We are glad to collaborate with service providers, schools, real estate people, authorities and other decision makers in this area.

With medical doctors and hospitals we would like to study health effects of radiofrequency exposure. This would be possible by repeating the following blood-test based procedure before and after base station (transmitter) installation: 1 , 2 , 3, 4 . Alteratively, this could be done before/after shielding.
