Power quality - Voltage Transients

Electricity in its purest form is sinusoidal 50 Hz wave. However, various motors, pumps, energy-saving lamps etc cause so called voltage transients.  Voltage transients cause "spikes" that are visible as RF-radiation.There are indicators, that voltage transients cause health problems. In places where we have measured extremely high transients, we have met sick people whose symptom (illness) picture is similar to those described below:

"Workers complain of headaches and eyestrain, together with a flow of tears, of fatigue derived from over-all weakness, and dizziness ... At night their sleep is disturbed and superficial and they are sleepy in daytime  ... Sometimes they perceive nervous tension or , on the contrary, mental depression combined with deterioration intellectual functions (notably memory impairment). Over a longer period, definite sluggisness and inability to make decisions result. "[1]

Transient electric and magnetic fields would induce higher current density in the child body than power frequency fields with similar field strength. This current density may be 10.000-100.000-times higher than in case of 50 Hz pure sine wave [1, 2}. Please, take a look this slideshow with several references. There are several ways to reduce voltage transients. If our measurements indicate problems in this area, we will also provide filtering and shielding tips. We measure voltage transients with a Fluke ScopeMeter 199C meter (an oscilloscope) and with a Gigahertz Solutions NFA 1000 meter.
